Purpose: The Reason for Which Something is Done

The Purpose of This Blog – Make Help from a Nutritionist Accessible

I am so grateful for the clients I have the opportunity to meet with in-person, on an individual basis, and appreciate the customization I provide them.  When financial resources allow,  personalized nutrition is a wonderful service.  But my reality is that for every one person that is able to see me individually, five people that call my office and need help can’t.  So I decided to change how I distribute information – make it free and national.

This summer, I created a continuity program for my consulting clients.  It included weekly drop-in classes that they could attend on various topics from Introduction to Whole Foods-Based Nutrition to Kitchen 101.  I wanted to 1) create a forum that I could provide general nutrition information that would benefit everyone (versus using paid consulting time to address these topics), and 2) control the order of how they received the content - like a school curriculum.  To best understand the why’s behind my recommendations, I wanted them to learn the basics.  The continuity program provided an environment to teach and share knowledge, but the problem still lied in not being able to extend that content to many that needed and wanted it.

This blog is my first attempt at a solution.  Rather than drop-in classes at my office, we’ll have discussions through posts.  And I will still format the content in a way that builds on itself – kinda like school, but not at all like school.  To understand heart disease, inflammation, or stress – you have to know the basics of cells first.  I understand that this won’t appeal to everyone.  Some prefer the snipits and just hearing what to do versus why.  But for those that find biology even a little fascinating or are receptive to the possibility of finding motivation for sustainable, doable change, I would love for you to follow and participate in the conversation.

A brief (tentative) outline of how I see us getting through the holidays together – with the goal to best set us up for success after them – will be posted next! I am so excited to get started! ~ Teri
